Welcome to Heller's Angels dog rescue.
We are a "no kill" dog rescue in Clay County, Indiana. We specialize
in the rescue and rehabilitation of small dogs, particularly
Pomeranians. However, as you can see from our list of rescued pups,
we have a soft spot for any dog in need.
Although some of our dogs come directly from their owners who, for
various reasons can no longer support or care for them, many of
the animals in our care came to us on what would have otherwise been
one of the last days of their lives. In addition to saving unadoptable
animals in danger of being euthanized at typical shelters, many of our
pups come to us directly from the streets. Many have injuries and
illnesses that need immediate care.
How can you help?
First - and most importantly,
before you buy a pet, look for an animal at a local shelter or rescue.
Even if you are looking for a pure bred animal
there are rescues specializing in all common breeds in most areas.
And yes, they do even have puppies from time
to time, but don't underestimate the love an older animal can bring
to your home (not to mention the fact that they may already be well
housebroken). If you do buy a puppy, be sure you know where they came
from, puppy mills are horrible places and it is not uncommon for pet
stores to purchase from them unaware.
Second - support animal rescues! You can do this in many
ways, the simplest of which is to give money to help support their
operations. We are a non-profit organization which means your donations
are tax deductible, and more importantly, we are a volunteer run
organization. Every dollar you give goes directly toward the welfare
of our animals. If you can not help financially, there are many other
ways you can contribute, from volunteering to help care for animals
at the rescue, to being a foster parent for a dog until a "forever
home" can be found.
